ahead of their forthcoming third album, kleine untergrund schallplatten is delighted to announce “warp”, a new 12” single from the bv’s.

in homage to the classic maxi singles of the 1980s, the a-side is an 8-minute extended version of their new dream-pop hit “warp”, with a long instrumental intro inspired by krautrock, yo la tengo and disintergration-era the cure. The two b-sides, “feedback” and “plins”, showcase the band’s further experimentation with synthesizers and darker instrumentation, whilst retaining the melancholic, nostalgic sound which characterised their earlier releases.

demonstrating how they have developed as a four-piece band, with “warp” the bv’s have managed to create a sound that moves between new order, the field mice, the cure and the soundscapes of cluster, air and the zephyrs.

this single by the bv’s — fred, josh, matt, hannes — was recorded by fred in the foggy concrete of dropoutsound studios and the brown and mustard front room of lindenstr. on some of the hottest and coldest days and nights of 2022 and 2023, after which it was mixed in austria by thomas pronai and then mastered by moritz, before being pressed into existence in augsburg at duophonic and finally released into reality by ronny pinkau at kleine untergrund schallplatten as kus 036.

This is an unbiased review. That being said...I fell in love with Beth Arzy's voice the first time I listened to Aberdeen. I could listen to Beth sing the instruction manual for a dishwasher. But I'm grateful she's surrounded by talented and totally capable band mates instead. I'd rate Misplaced Words 4.6 out of 5. And had a devil of a time picking a favorite track. Tomorrow I might pick a different one as they're all very good. My biggest complaint is the album is over way too quick. CEF121
